Slum village released their sophomore studio album "fantastic vol.1", June 13 2000The Detroit, Michigan rap group, Slum Village originally comprising of rappers T3 and Baatin (1974-2004) and rapper and producer, J Dilla aka Jay Dee (1974-2006). Elzhi joined the group after J Dilla left in 2001. The group released their second studio album Fantastic Vol. 2 on June 13, 2000 through the label, GoodVibe Recordings and Barak Records. The album was highly acclaimed and received positive reviews. It features the singles "Get Dis Money" and "I Don't Know/Eyes Up".

The Memphis Tennessee horrorcore rap group, Three 6 Mafia, released their fourth studio album, When The Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 on June 13, 2000 by Loud Records and Hypnotize Minds Records. The album received gold certification by the RIAA. It features the smash single Sippin On Some Syrup featuring UGK and Project Pat, and Who Run It.
