The beloved New York, Bed Stuy rapper, The Notorious BIG aka Biggie Smalls, is gunned down on the streets of Los Angeles by an unidentified assailant in a drive-by shooting on March 9 1997 at around 12 : 45am, while promoting his sophomore album Life After Death. He died at the Cedar-Sinai Medical Centre at 1:15am at the age of 24. Bigge was very prominent in the 90s East Coast Hip Hop and is considered one of the Greatest MCs of all Time.
The New York rapper Anthony Cruz, known by his stage name AZ was born on March 9, 1997. He is known for being a long time and frequent rap partner of fellow East Coast rapper, Nas. In 1996, he was a member of the rap group, The Firm together with Nas, Foxy Brown, Cormega and Nature on Dr Dre's label, Aftermath Records. His debut studio album, Do Or Die was released in October 1995 by EMI Records. He has released 9 studio albums from 1995 to 2021.
